House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Tuesday expressed his appreciation for the government’s efforts in securing essential needs for the relief and shelter of those displaced due to the Israeli aggression on Lebanon, despite its limited resources.
The House Speaker called on the government to double its efforts, affirming its capability to do so, and endorsed Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s appeal to donor countries and humanitarian organizations.
Moreover, Berri urged ministries and the Higher Relief Committee to fulfill their responsibilities without delay, utilizing available resources to ensure a dignified standard of living for the displaced, including housing and social and medical services, especially with the winter season approaching.
The House Speaker further renewed his gratitude to the Arab brotherly countries and friendly nations that promptly sent immediate assistance, calling on the United Nations to establish an air bridge to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian supplies and break the Israeli-im
posed air blockade on Lebanon.
Berri also extended his heartfelt thanks to all Lebanese, including political and spiritual leaders and civil society organizations across various regions, for their initiatives to host displaced individuals from the south, Bekaa, and the southern suburbs of Beirut, who were unjustly forced from their homes by the Israeli onslaught.
Berri finally commended the resilience of the displaced individuals, acknowledging their suffering and sacrifices, while urging them to refrain from any actions that could violate private property rights under any circumstances. He also also called on the International and Lebanese Red Cross to fulfill their duties in delivering food and medical supplies to the affected populations in the south.
