Beach Volleyball Takes Center Stage at Pearl Island in Fourth Edition

Ramallah: Action continues on Wednesday in the fourth edition of the Pearl Beach Volleyball Championship (EKBES) currently under way at The Pearl Island. The tournament, which began on Tuesday, runs until the 18th day of the holy month of Ramadan and features 12 teams divided into four groups.

According to Qatar News Agency, three matches are scheduled for Wednesday, with Khalifa City set to face Al Ittihad, Vicuna taking on Al Zubarah, and Lekhwiya meeting Lusail. Opening-day results saw Lekhwiya defeat Seashore in straight sets, while the Ministry of Interior overcame Al Rayyan by the same margin. Khalifa City also secured a two-set victory against Al Markhiya.

Organizers said the first day was marked by strong crowd attendance, creating a lively atmosphere in the stands. Matches were characterized by fast-paced rallies and high levels of individual skill, with fans responding enthusiastically in what observers described as a sign of the tournament’s growing popularity.

The competition is being played in
a single round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarter-finals. This year’s edition carries particular significance as it is being staged at The Pearl Island for the first time, reflecting organizers’ efforts to diversify venues and adding a tourism dimension to the event in order to attract a wider audience and enhance the fan experience.

The first and second editions were held at Aspire Zone, while the third took place at Old Doha Port before the tournament’s move to The Pearl Island this year.
