On July 24, 1920, Youssef Al-Azma, then Syrian Minister of Defense, fell a martyr along with other heroes while defending Syrian territory from the French army.
On the 103nd anniversary of that glorious battle, the People’s Assembly issued a statement affirming that the Syrian people are more determined than ever to confront the forces of evil, aggression and terrorism.
On that day, the hero Youssef Al-Azma faced the French colonial army led by General Gouraud with few men and weapons, which included a large number of men and heavy and modern weapons … in that battle, Al-Azma with many soldiers of his army fell martyrs, leaving a page of glory in the history of modern Syria.
The People’s Assembly said the inevitability of victory in the face of all the invaders and conspirators against Syria with the steadfastness and sacrifices of its people, army and leadership, stressing that the memory of the Maysaloun battle will remain immortal in the memory of generations and an incentive for the free, honorable and fighters everywhere.
