Awqaf Launches Second Phase of Sheikh Jassim Noble Quran Competition

Doha: The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs announced Tuesday the commencement of the second phase of the 30th Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani Noble Quran Competition, covering full recitation and Tajweed, for citizens and residents of both genders.

According to Qatar News Agency, the competitions will feature citizens, fully memorizers, and partial memorizers, with participants competing across the established categories. This phase includes the qualifiers from the first round in both full and partial memorization, comprising 15 male and 15 female participants in each category.

In the citizens category, fully memorizers and partial memorizers of both genders will also compete, with 18 male and 15 female participants. Male tests will be held at Imam Mohammed bin Abdul Wahab Mosque, while female tests will take place at the Women's Activity Center under the Department of Da'wah and Religious Guidance in Al Waab.

The Ministry clarified that on Wednesday, participants in the Citizens category will undertake their tests during the afternoon session, starting at 3:00 p.m. for males and 2:30 p.m. for females. On Thursday, full memorizers among the residents will be tested in the morning session starting at 7:30 a.m., while partial memorizers among the residents will take their tests in the afternoon session, for both males and females.

The second phase will culminate in the qualification of five male and five female participants from each of the three categories for the final public round, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday next week, to determine the top five winners in each category.

The Ministry also highlighted the financial awards for winners: first-place winners in all categories, including full and partial memorizers, will receive QR 100,000, for both males and females. Second-place winners will receive QR 85,000, third-place QR 70,000, fourth-place QR 60,000, and fifth-place QR 50,000, for both genders.

Furthermore, the organizing committee will grant encouragement prizes to participants who successfully complete the second phase but do not qualify for the third phase, alongside awards for participants with exceptional vocal quality, recognizing excellence and dedication among all competitors.
