Gunmen have killed at least 17 people including two police officers in an attack in central Nigeria's Benue state, local police have said. Benue police spokeswoman Anene Sewuese Catherine said that at around a large number of armed bandits invaded the village and started shooting sporadically at members of the community, killing 15 people and then killed two police officers who were responding to the attack. Northwestern and central Nigeria have long been plagued by attacks by armed men known as "bandits" who raid villages to steal cattle and kidnap residents for ransom. Source: Qatar News Agency
