At least 15 people were killed in heavy rains that caused floods and landslides in the northeastern Indian state of Meghalaya over the past four days.

Indian media reports indicated that the heavy rains killed at least 15 people, including seven members of one family, and about 17,000 people from about 165 affected villages were moved to relief camps, while meteorological officials expected heavy rains to fall on parts of the state this week.

Sanjay Goyal, the state’s revenue and disaster management official, said that “the situation is better now with the improvement of weather conditions.” It is worth noting that floods have swept other Asian countries such as Bangladesh, where floods forced at least 20,000 people to leave their homes.
