Alexandria: The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Alexandria, Egypt, is set to host the 73rd session of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers and the 37th session of the Council next Tuesday and Wednesday. The sessions will focus on reviewing successful green hydrogen initiatives across Arab nations, with particular attention given to Qatar’s pioneering efforts in the field.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Executive Office will deliberate on a variety of subjects aimed at bolstering Arab cooperation in transport and logistics. These discussions will support infrastructural development in the Arab region and foster economic integration among member states, aligning with sustainable development goals. The meeting will address the creation of an Arab mechanism and database to aid the ship repair and construction industry, and examine the role of artificial intelligence in advancing the transport and logistics sectors.

The agenda will further include a
draft agreement to streamline maritime transport processes for passengers and goods among Arab countries. This will be complemented by a working paper from the Academy on standardizing driving and rest periods for truck and bus drivers to improve safety in land transport. Saudi Arabia’s proposals to establish a special Arab agency for maritime safety and a regional center for managing ship traffic in the Bab al-Mandab Strait will also be discussed, alongside an amended draft agreement on tax and customs exemptions to strengthen civil aviation cooperation.

In a related effort, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport will collaborate with the European Union and the League of Arab States’ Transport and Tourism Department to host an Arab-European workshop next Thursday. This workshop aims to create an integrated study for a green hydrogen supply chain project, spotlighting experiences from Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Mauritania, UAE, Morocco, and Iraq.

The workshop will present insights
from the League of Arab States, the European Union, and the Academy on developing a comprehensive green hydrogen supply chain. This initiative is part of the decision from the 22nd Joint Meeting of the Technical Committees for Transport to provide innovative solutions to energy and climate challenges and enhance cooperation with the European Union for sustainable development in the Arab region.
