League for Arab States welcomed Monday Libya’s central bank’s announcement of reunification after being split for nearly a decade.
In a statement, the League expressed its aspiration for this step to have positive impacts on the economy and the living conditions of Libyan citizens across the country.
Spokesperson for the Secretary General Jamal Rushdie said the League hopes the move would stimulate the reunification of the other Libyan institutions that suffered years-long split and lead to transparent and fair distribution of national wealth revenues, which has always constituted a fundamental point of contention between the political actors.
On Sunday, Libya’s central bank announced itself a unified sovereign institution following a meeting between Central Bank Governor in the capital, Tripoli, and his deputy in Benghazi.
