Arab League Highlights Urgent Support Needs for UNRWA

Cairo: The Arab League and Arab states hosting Palestinian refugees have emphasized the necessity of providing ongoing political and financial support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

According to Qatar News Agency, this call to action was made during a meeting involving the Arab League, delegations from Arab host states, and the Acting Commissioner-General of UNRWA, held on the sidelines of UNRWA's Advisory Commission's Arab coordination meeting. The participants reiterated the importance of ensuring that UNRWA continues to deliver its services, uphold the rights of Palestinian refugees, and maintain their dignity while fulfilling its responsibilities amidst prevailing challenges.

The Arab League issued a statement on Wednesday noting that the meeting reviewed recent developments related to UNRWA's operations and its relief and service programs across its five areas of operation. The discussions were held against the backdrop of escalating humanitarian and financial crises, with a particular focus on the Gaza Strip.

The meeting also tackled the difficulties in maintaining essential services for Palestinian refugees, covering critical areas such as education, healthcare, relief assistance, and social services.
