Arab League Council to Convene Over Gaza’s Dire Humanitarian Conditions

Cairo: The Arab League's General Secretariat announced that the Council of the Arab League at the level of permanent delegates will hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday to address the critical humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting, requested by the State of Palestine on July 17, aims to explore political, legal, and diplomatic measures at both the Arab and international levels to address the serious violations by the Israeli occupation. In a statement, Ambassador Mohannad Aklouk, Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the Arab League, emphasized the dire conditions in Gaza and the manipulation of aid distribution centers, which have become deadly for starving civilians.

Ambassador Aklouk accused the occupation of systematically using famine as a weapon, stating that nearly a thousand Palestinians have been targeted while seeking food aid for their families. He criticized the so-called humanitarian relief efforts, calling them a facade for further violence against Palestinians.

The meeting also aims to address the targeting of Islamic and Christian holy sites, including an illegal plan affecting the Hebron municipality's authority over the Ibrahimi Mosque and its surroundings. Ambassador Aklouk warned of attempts to alter the mosque's historical and religious status, which he described as a violation of international law and UN resolutions.

Additionally, Ambassador Aklouk highlighted the targeting of the Latin Monastery Church in Gaza, a significant historical site and refuge for displaced individuals, labeling it a crime under international humanitarian law.
