Cairo: The unfolding catastrophic and humanitarian developments in the field, along with their geopolitical repercussions, portend grave slippages and challenges for the region, the Arab League warned on Wednesday.
According to Qatar News Agency, it stressed that these unfolding incidents require coordinated and effective media engagement to bolster political, diplomatic, and legal action across Arab, Islamic, and global arenas, coupled with a resolute strategy to activate executive mechanisms aimed at refuting misleading Israeli content.
This came during a meeting held at the General Headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo by Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League, Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, with the General Supervisor of Official Media in the State of Palestine, Minister Ahmad Assaf, the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the Arab League, Mohannad Al Akoulok, and the accompanying delegation.
Khattabi stressed the importance of creating open, credible, and informative media content based on a participatory vision with the engagement of all components of the Arab media space.
The Palestinian cause remains at the top of the priorities of the plans and programs implemented by the Media and Communications Sector at the Arab League, as part of monitoring and implementing the decisions of the Council of Arab Ministers of Information, as a standing item on its agenda, he noted.
Accordingly, Khattabi outlined the Arab media action plan abroad and its executive mechanisms, the Arab media strategy, the historic documentation programs, and the preservation of Palestinian memory, in addition to unlocking solidarity initiatives with the Palestinian media bloc, including the dedication of an international day to stand united with the Palestinian media on May 11 every year.
Khattabi highlighted that the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League spares no effort in shaping the orientations of the Council of Arab Ministers of Information, in coordination with the Palestinian Ministry of Information, and in close cooperation with member states, Arab League missions abroad, and observer-status media organizations.
This concerted effort, he said, aims to consolidate support for Palestinian media and to provide the Palestinian narrative and reporting with the necessary space in the Arab and international media landscape, particularly in light of the ramifications of the Israeli aggression, including the ongoing acts of extermination, starvation, terror, and forced displacement in the Gaza Strip, as well as the systematic expansion of settlements in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem and its environs.
For his part, Al Akoulok noted the efforts energized by this sector, along with its effective role in standing by the Palestinian people to proceed with their struggle on all stages and apprise the international community of the calamitous and menacing war being waged on the Gaza enclave, to end the Israeli occupation and consolidate the components of independent national statehood.
