Cairo: The League of Arab States affirmed that strengthening and empowering the family is a strategic choice for achieving sustainable development in Arab countries and for ensuring a more prosperous, just, and dignified future for all members of society.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement marking International Day of Families, the League called for continued coordination among Arab states and relevant regional and international bodies, and for intensified joint efforts to support Arab families. It also urged the expansion of programs and initiatives that enhance family stability and cohesion, and provide a safe and stimulating environment for the holistic development of all its members, particularly children and youth.
The League emphasized its unwavering commitment to supporting the Arab family as the fundamental unit of society and a key pillar of comprehensive development and social stability in the region. It noted that commemorating this day, which was adopted by the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, recognizes the vital role the family plays in strengthening social cohesion and building future generations.
The statement affirmed that the Arab family has always been, and remains, the primary incubator of values and sound upbringing, and the safeguard for preserving cultural and civilizational identity and strengthening national belonging, thus ensuring societal stability and sustainable development. It emphasized the necessity of preserving the institution of the family and marriage, upholding their objectives in accordance with sound human nature, and guaranteeing the dignity, protection, and development of all family members.
The statement further noted that, in light of the rapid transformations the world is witnessing, including demographic, social, and technological changes, the Arab family faces new challenges that necessitate strengthening the social protection system, developing relevant policies and legislation, empowering women and youth, and expanding access to essential services to ensure family protection, enhance its resilience, and promote the well-being of its members.
