Doha: Speaking to QNA, HE Director General of the ALECSO Dr. Mohamed Ould Omar affirmed that there are numerous challenges besetting Arab nations in the areas of sciences, education, and culture, especially those devastated by wars and crises, adding that such challenges dramatically impact tangible and intangible heritage, and lead to the erosion of Arab cultural identity, as well as migration, displacement, and dropping out of school. According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Ould Omar called for preserving ALECSO-established major goals, within which topics of language, identity, and Arab culture are included, emphasizing that this does not imply isolating oneself or rejecting the other. He stressed the importance of safeguarding everything positive in Arab culture while simultaneously adapting to other cultures. First and foremost, ALECSO strives to encourage and support joint dossiers among the Arab nations to primarily support the Arab culture and hold Arab cultural weeks at home and abroad, Dr. Ould Omar s aid, adding that the proliferation of illiteracy is a prime challenge facing Arab nations, as some of them suffer from illiteracy at a rate of 50%, followed by technological and scientific research challenges. He stated that Arab countries must anticipate the future regarding everything related to technology, technological challenges, and communication, pointing out that Arab curricula should similarly look for the future and be capable of responding to the aspirations of Arab nations. Dr. Ould Omar indicated that ALECSO is constantly working to organize cultural events and support Arab nations in these fields by exploring extraordinary experiences to be further promoted, either for war-torn Arab countries or those facing social and political adversities, which should receive direct assistance in the areas they urgently need. He added that ALECSO collaborates with ministries of education and engages them in forums and conferences to benefit from Arab experiences, underlining that culture and education beco me more productive in times of peace than during wars, affirming that ALECSO seeks nothing but peace, and that Arab countries, through their partnerships, strive for this goal through culture and education, as long as Arab culture is a culture of peace and tranquility.
