Doha: In its editorial, Al-Watan newspaper condemned the inciting remarks made by the office of the Israeli Prime Minister against Qatar, which lacks the slightest degree of political and moral responsibility, explaining that these remarks are means to justify the continued Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip. The newspaper emphasized that the joint mediation efforts of Qatar and Egypt, with the support of the United States, had managed to secure the release of 138 hostages, stressing that questioning these efforts today signifies a deliberate attempt to undermine them in order to maintain the suffocating blockade, systematic starvation, and the deprivation of medicine and shelter.
According to Qatar News Agency, the editorial concluded by referring to the statement made by Israel's finance minister Bezalel Smotrich that Israel would not withdraw from the territories it occupies in Gaza, even if it meant refusing to release the prisoners held in the Strip. This, the newspaper noted, indicates a different Israeli agenda, one that does not prioritize peace or the end of the ongoing war on Gaza.
Meanwhile, the Peninsula reported that the State of Qatar has made strides in expanding its energy sector and electricity production to meet growing domestic demand, while simultaneously advancing its commitment to green energy and sustainable development. As one of the world's leading natural gas producers, Qatar continues to invest heavily in its energy infrastructure, ensuring a reliable supply of electricity and positioning itself as a key player in global energy markets.
As part of this strategy to meet growing electricity demand and accelerate sustainable development, the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) signed four major contracts. The newspaper added that these strategic investments are part of a comprehensive national plan to enhance electricity infrastructure, strengthen supply resilience, and promote environmentally responsible growth. It noted that the contracts involve the construction of seven high-voltage substations, including the installation of 212 kilometers of underground cables and overhead lines.
The Peninsula concluded by noting that the State of Qatar is increasingly focusing on diversifying its energy mix by investing in renewable energy sources, particularly solar power. The launch of the Al Kharsaah Solar Power Plant, one of the largest in the region, marks a pivotal step in Qatar's transition toward clean energy.
