Doha: In its editorial, Al Raya newspaper affirmed that the healthcare sector in the State of Qatar is undergoing a comprehensive transformation that has made it a fundamental pillar and an influential force both regionally and internationally, based on the Qatar National Vision 2030, which places human development at the forefront of its priorities.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Raya highlighted Qatar's advanced strategic partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) as a model of international cooperation that enhances the country's global standing in supporting public health. The newspaper pointed out that Qatar has achieved major strides in recent years in developing healthcare infrastructure and expanding treatment services, reflecting the state's deep commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services to its population.
Al Raya emphasized that Qatar is now at the forefront of countries providing comprehensive healthcare, based on a clear strategic vision that strengthens the healthcare system's ability to adapt to and effectively respond to challenges. One of the most prominent pillars of this healthcare advancement, it noted, was the strategic partnership with the WHO, which was recently reinforced through the second strategic dialogue held between both sides in Geneva, Switzerland.
The editorial noted that this dialogue culminated in the signing of a Letter of Intent outlining the Qatar-WHO Cooperation Strategy for 2024-2030, which is based on two main tracks. The first focuses on the joint implementation of health programs aimed at enhancing public health within Qatar, in alignment with WHO's 14th General Programme of Work and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The second track relates to Qatar's active contribution to supporting regional and global health efforts through its specialized institutions, reflecting the country's commitment to its humanitarian role and global responsibility in strengthening health security. According to Al Raya, the State of Qatar adopts a comprehensive approach to the health sector. Domestically, the healthcare system is built on the principle of primary care as a solid foundation, characterized by flexibility and the capacity to adapt to changing circumstances.
The paper further noted that Qatar places health security at the core of its national strategy, by enhancing preparedness and its ability to confront pandemics and potential health threats. On the international level, the editorial highlighted the State of Qatar's proactive and impactful role in supporting global health security, citing its experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, during which the country mobilized all its resources to support the most vulnerable countries and communities. This was a practical embodiment of the principle that health for all was not a gift, but a fundamental right, just like security, education, and development.
Al Raya concluded its editorial by emphasizing that the development of Qatar's healthcare system is not merely a domestic goal, but part of a broader commitment grounded in deep humanitarian values and clear international obligations, underscoring the country's role as a responsible partner in advancing global health.
