Al Noor Center for the Blind Hosts Events for International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Doha: Al Noor Center for the Blind, a member of the Qatar Social Work Foundation, has organized a series of awareness and societal events in line with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. These events aim to highlight the rights of individuals with visual impairments through a variety of programs.

According to Qatar News Agency, the center held a symposium in collaboration with the National Committee for Human Rights (NCHR) focusing on creating a safe environment and addressing violence against blind women. This event emphasized the challenges faced by blind women and explored protective mechanisms to support a safer and more inclusive environment.

Additionally, the center participated in an interactive exhibition during the World Arabian Horse Championship at Old Doha Port. Members showcased handmade crafts and artistic drawings inspired by equestrian themes, reflecting their creative and artistic skills. An awareness campaign on the rights of persons with visual impairments was also launched, highlighting the latest developments in the new disability law.

Furthermore, the center's members were actively involved in the opening ceremony of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, coordinated with the organizing committee. Some members escorted footballers during the Qatar vs. Palestine match, symbolizing their inclusion in major sporting events and showcasing their abilities.

These initiatives are part of the center's ongoing commitment to providing integrated awareness programs to demonstrate the potential of individuals with visual impairments, said Mishal Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Executive Director of Al Noor Center for the Blind. Al Nuaimi emphasized the significance of the World Arabian Horse Championship as a platform for the members to express their artistic talents.

He also highlighted that the media campaign accompanying these events aims to raise awareness of the rights of visually impaired individuals and support national efforts to create inclusive environments. The new law's role in enhancing protection and empowerment was also underscored.

Al Nuaimi noted that the center's activities are part of its continuous efforts to empower its members, enhance their societal participation, and contribute to building a more inclusive community that celebrates human diversity.
