The Al Hoceima regional police officers were able, on the basis of precise information provided by the services of the General Directorate of Territory Surveillance (DGST), to thwart an attempt at illegal immigration by sea in the early hours of Wednesday morning, and arrested 17 would-be immigrants.
The operation took place on the coast of the city of Al Hoceima (northern Morocco), a security source said, noting that the searches and investigations led to the arrest of the would-be immigrants and the seizure of an inflatable boat, a marine engine, six containers of fuel, in addition to engine oils and three air pumps.
The suspects were placed at the disposal of the judicial inquiry conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, with a view to determining the ins and outs of this case, while searches and investigations are continuing for the arrest of the organizers involved in the activity of this criminal network, added the same source.
This security operation is part of the tireless efforts of the DGSN and DGST services to combat illegal immigration and human trafficking, it said.
