AFC Champions League Two: Al Ahli Triumphs Over Al Hussein in Quarterfinals

Doha: Former Germany midfielder Julian Draxler scored directly from a corner to lead Al Ahli SC to a 3-1 victory over Al Hussein from Jordan, advancing the Qatari side to the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League Two 2025/26.

According to Qatar News Agency, Erik Exposito initially put Al Ahli ahead just two minutes into the match. However, Yousef Qashi equalized 19 minutes later. It was Draxler's remarkable corner in the 65th minute that broke the deadlock, putting Al Ahli back in the lead. Michel Vlap sealed the win with a stoppage-time penalty, confirming their place in the semi-final against Al Nassr Club from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. The winner will face Japan's Gamba Osaka in the final next month, as reported by the AFC website.

Exposito's early goal came from a well-timed run, allowing him to connect with Draxler's perfectly placed cross from the left, resulting in a precise diving header. Another opportunity arose when Exposito set up Sekou Yansane, but Yazeed Abdulaila's impressive save prevented Al Ahli from extending their lead.

Al Hussein managed to level the score in the 21st minute when Yousef Abu Jalboush's cross found Ashley Coffey. Coffey's header hit the post, but Qashi was there to slot in the rebound.

In the second half, Draxler's skill was on display as he scored directly from a corner, catching Abdulaila off guard. Despite Al Hussein's attempts to respond, including a powerful strike from Aref Al Haj that was saved by Marwan Badreldin, Al Ahli maintained their lead.

In the final moments, Pedro Henrique nearly equalized for Al Hussein, but a foul on Suhaib Gannan resulted in a penalty for Al Ahli. Vlap converted the penalty, ensuring Al Ahli's advancement to the next stage of the competition.
