Ministry of Culture and the Syrian Trust for Development launched Monday a plan to preserve crafting and playing the Oud in a workshop in Khan Asaad Pasha in Old Damascus.
The musical instrument of the oud is inscribed on 2023 UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
The workshop was launched in view of the commitments made to the cultural heritage elements and the development and implementation of plans for their preservation in partnership with the local community and the concerned government bodies and societal actors to improve the industry and transmission of cultural elements.
The two-day workshop aims to activate the community dialogue in order to preserve the intangible heritage and develop preliminary features for a plan to preserve the element that was inscribed as a common element with Iran on the UNESCO World Heritage list, in addition to discussing the possibility of interested Arab and foreign countries joining the common file for the element.
