Doha: Six people were injured, two of them critically, in a violent explosion that destroyed a two-storey home in Austin, the largest city in the US state of Texas. The explosion also damaged at least 24 homes in the area.

According to Qatar News Agency, when firefighters arrived at the neighborhood in northwest Austin, they found the house was leveled to the ground and a neighboring house suffered "severe collapse damage," said the division chief of Austin Fire Department. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services reported that two firefighters suffered minor injuries while responding to the incident.

The cause of the explosion remains unknown. The incident is currently under investigation.
