Doha: An earthquake measuring 5.7 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the Indonesian island of Java on Tuesday.
According to Qatar News Agency, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the epicenter of the earthquake occurred 265 km west of Pacitan, East Java province, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
There have been no reports of casualties or material damage.
Indonesia is prone to frequent seismic activity due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
