Doha: An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale struck near Queensland, Australia, today.
According to Qatar News Agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre stated that the earthquake’s epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers. There have been no immediate reports of human or material losses following the seismic event.
Australia typically records an average of 100 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or greater annually. Of these, approximately seven earthquakes are of magnitude 4 or greater each year within 300 kilometers of its coastline. In 2024, the number of such earthquakes reached approximately 11, with the strongest being a magnitude of 4.8.
