5.1-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Indonesia’s Gorontalo Province

Gorontalo: An earthquake measuring 5.1 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Gorontalo Province on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi on Monday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) said in a statement that the epicenter of the earthquake was 74 km from the Pun Bolango area, and at a depth of 107 km.

No human losses or material damage have been reported due to the earthquake so far.

Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes, as it is located on the Pacific belt known as the Ring of Fire, where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
