Kuwait city: The draw for the 40th Arab Men's Handball Clubs League and Cup Champions League, conducted on Monday, placed Qatar's Al Ahli SC in Group A and Qatar SC in Group B.
According to Qatar News Agency, eleven clubs are set to participate in the tournament, which will take place in Kuwait from September 12 to 22. The teams have been divided into two groups. Group A comprises Al Ahli SC, Kuwait SC (host), Naft Al Basra SC of Iraq, Kazma SC of Kuwait, and Al-Tali'aa SC of Syria. Meanwhile, Group B features Qatar SC, Al Ahly SC of Egypt, Al Hashd SC of Iraq, Al-Sulaibikhat SC of Kuwait, Al Shabab SC of Syria, and Al Nawaeer SC of Syria.
The tournament format allows the top four teams from each group to progress to the quarterfinals. Presently, Kuwait SC holds the championship title from the previous edition, which was also hosted in Kuwait last year. They secured the title by defeating Al Salmiya, another Kuwaiti team, with a score of 32-23 in the final match. Al Gharafa SC from Qatar secured third place by overcoming Al Qadisiya SC of Kuwait with a score of 33-26.
In past editions of the championship, Al Rayyan SC of Qatar emerged victorious in the 21st edition held in Sharjah in 2000. More recently, Al Gharafa SC clinched the title in the 35th edition, which took place in Amman, Jordan, in 2019.
