4-Magnitude Quake Hits Algeria’s Jijel

Algiers, An earthquake measuring 4 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Tuesday morning Jijel Province, northeastern Algeria.

Algerian Center for Research in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics said in a statement that the epicenter of the quake was 6 km southeast Ziama Mansouriah area.

On June 1, an earthquake measuring 3 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Tipaza Province, west of Algiers, without recording any human or material losses.

Algeria experiences earthquakes and tremors occasionally, the most severe of which was the 6.8 earthquake that shook the northern province of Boumerdes in May 2003, killing 2,277 people and causing significant material damage and massive destruction.
