4.8-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Papua New Guinea

Doha: An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale struck Papua New Guinea on Tuesday. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 88 kilometers southeast of Panguna, at a depth of 75.3 kilometers, the US Geological Survey reported.

According to Qatar News Agency, so far, no casualties or damage have been reported as a result of the earthquake. Papua New Guinea is located in the so-called Ring of Fire, a region that extends along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, which is characterized by high seismic and volcanic activity. This region includes 90% of the active volcanoes in the world.
