Doha: An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale struck off the west coast of Amami-Oshima island in Japan on Wednesday. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said in a statement that the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 km.
According to Qatar News Agency, Japan is located at the convergence of four tectonic plates, making it particularly vulnerable to seismic activity. It is also home to 100 active volcanoes.
