Miyazaki: An earthquake measuring 4.4 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Miyazaki Prefecture in southern Japan.
According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said that the epicenter of the quake was at a depth of 48.7 km. There have been no reports of casualties or material losses as a result of the earthquake.
Japan is located at the meeting point of four tectonic plates, making it particularly vulnerable to seismic activity. It is also home to 100 active volcanoes. Japan experiences about 1,500 earthquakes and tremors each year, accounting for about 18 percent of the world's earthquakes, but most of them are mild.
