4.3-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Supiori Island in Indonesia’s Papua Province


Doha: An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale struck Supiori Island in Papua province, eastern Indonesia on Wednesday.



According to Qatar News Agency, the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) said in a statement that the epicenter of the earthquake was located 18 km northwest of Supiori and at a depth of 10 km.



There have been no reports yet of any material damage or human losses as a result of the earthquake.



Indonesia is regularly hit by earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where several tectonic plates meet, causing frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
