37 Killed in Bus Crash Southern Peru

Arequipa: 37 people were killed and 24 others injured on Wednesday when a bus plunged into a ravine after colliding with a pickup truck in the city of Arequipa, southern Peru. The accident occurred on the highway connecting the region to Chile and is considered the worst in Peru in recent years.

According to Qatar News Agency, Walter Oporto, the health director for the Arequipa region, stated that the accident resulted in 37 deaths and 24 injuries. He noted that the bus had departed from the town of Chala in the Caravelle department, heading to Arequipa, with 61 passengers on board.

The bus fell into a ravine approximately 200 meters deep after a head-on collision with a pickup truck on a curve, according to local media reports citing firefighters.
