3.6-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Northern Iraq

Doha: An earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale struck Friday western Nineveh Governorate, northern Iraq. The Nineveh Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring Department announced that the earthquake occurred between Tal Afar District and the Rabia and Al Ayadhiya sub-districts, west of the governorate, at a depth of more than 20 kilometers below the surface.

According to Qatar News Agency, it was reported that residents of Tal Afar and Rabia felt the tremor clearly, with no human casualties or material damage recorded so far. Experts link this activity to the expansion of geological faults in the region and their impact on the active tectonic movement in the earthquake belt extending from Turkiye to Iran, passing through Iraq.
