Doha: The 298th session of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), hosted by the Shura Council, concluded in Doha on Wednesday. The two-day session focused on evaluating the implementation of the current IPU strategy and outlining the general directions for the upcoming five-year strategy, alongside discussions on various organizational and parliamentary issues aimed at reinforcing the IPU's role and the effectiveness of its mechanisms.
According to Qatar News Agency, HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, who is a Member of the Executive Committee of the IPU and Vice President of the Committee representing the Arab Group within the Union, stated that the session marked a significant milestone for evaluating the Union's operational path. Dr. Hamda highlighted that the event led to outcomes that would enhance the IPU's mechanisms and effectiveness in addressing the current challenges facing international parliamentary action.
The discussions underscored the commitment of the Executive Committee's members to strengthening joint parliamentary action and deepening the multilateral parliamentary cooperation approach. This approach is seen as an effective tool in supporting dialogue, coordinating positions, and sharing expertise among national parliaments, thus contributing to achieving the IPU's objectives and responding to the aspirations of people worldwide, Dr. Hamda noted.
