21 Killed, 61 Injured in China Fireworks Factory Explosion

Ukraine: Chinese authorities announced that 21 people were killed and 61 others injured in an explosion at a fireworks factory in Hunan Province, central China. Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday that the explosion occurred yesterday at a factory belonging to Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Company in Liuyang City.

According to Qatar News Agency, the explosion's proximity to two black powder warehouses necessitated the evacuation of nearby residents and the establishment of a buffer zone to prevent secondary incidents. More than 480 rescuers, organized into five teams, were mobilized for the rescue operation.

Police have detained the company's manager, while an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident. This incident comes amid a record of industrial safety accidents in China, particularly in the fireworks manufacturing sector, which is a traditional industry with high risks due to the use of highly explosive materials such as black powder.

Hunan province, and especially Liuyang city, is one of the world's leading fireworks production centers, with hundreds of factories supplying local and international markets.
