Columbia: Two people were killed and a third injured in a shooting at the University of South Carolina, authorities confirmed on Friday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the university stated that the gunfire erupted inside an apartment building within a student housing complex. This prompted officials to suspend campus activities and restrict access to parts of the university for several hours as a precaution.

State and local law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the shooting. Authorities have not yet released information regarding a suspect, possible arrests, or a motive.

The latest shooting follows two previous incidents at the university, including one at the same student housing complex, which left one person dead and another injured.
