18 People Killed, 10 Injured in Passenger Bus Crash into Ravine in Algeria

Algiers: 18 people were killed and 10 others injured in a passenger bus crash Friday into a ravine in the El Harrach area of Algiers.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Algerian Civil Defense announced in a statement that 18 people died and 10 others were injured when the bus fell from a bridge into the El Harrach River. The statement added that the injured were treated and transported to a local hospital.

The statement indicated that rescue and relief operations are still ongoing. Local media reported that citizens threw themselves into the ravine to rescue those trapped inside the bus before Civil Defense personnel arrived at the scene.

Last October, Algeria recorded two similar accidents in the southern provinces of Ouargla and Naama, resulting in the deaths of 18 passengers and the injury of 20 others.
