Doha: The Saudi Film Festival's 11th edition is set to unfold from April 17 to 23, showcasing an eclectic mix of Qatari films. The event is organized by Saudi Arabia's Cinema Association and is in collaboration with the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra), with support from the Saudi Ministry of Culture's Film Commission.
According to Qatar News Agency, the festival will feature 68 films from Saudi Arabia, the Arabian Gulf, the Arab world, and beyond. The event plans to host four seminars, four training programs, and three sessions, including a book signing by the authors involved in the Saudi Film Encyclopedia initiative. This year's festival will also pay tribute to Saudi artist Ibrahim Al Hasawi.
During a recent press conference, the Saudi Film Festival Director, Ahmed Al Mulla, highlighted that since its 5th edition, the festival has included film contests and screenings from the Arabian Gulf countries, Iraq, and Yemen. Films from these regions will participate in competitions and parallel screenings, with cinema and media personalities from these countries expected to attend.
This edition will put a spotlight on Japanese cinema, featuring both feature and short films from Japan. The festival will also host film experts and organize a cultural seminar on the Japanese cinema experience.
