Doha: At least 11 militants were killed in two separate military operations in northeastern Nigeria.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Nigerian army announced in a statement on Tuesday that its forces successfully eliminated at least 11 militants connected to the ISIS group. This operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle insurgent networks in the region.
The statement highlighted that these clashes occurred on Monday in the northeastern states of Borno and Adamawa. These areas have been frequent targets of attacks by armed groups since the insurgency began in 2009.
The insurgency has resulted in the deaths of approximately 40,000 individuals and has displaced about two million Nigerians. The violence has not been confined to Nigeria alone, as it has spread to neighboring countries such as Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. This regional instability has led to the formation of a multinational force aimed at combating these militant groups.
