Quetta: 11 people were killed and 30 others injured in Pakistan when a bomb exploded at a public gathering in the southwestern city of Quetta late Tuesday.
According to Qatar News Agency, ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement released Wednesday. Government official Hamza Shafaat said the gathering was held to commemorate the death anniversary of Sardar Ataullah Mengal, a nationalist leader and former chief minister of Balochistan province. He added that the bomb exploded in a parking area as people were leaving the gathering.
Police official Athar Rashid stated that they are investigating the bombing, which appears to have been a suicide attack. Quetta is the capital of the restive Balochistan province, which borders Afghanistan and Iran.
